Pressure vessel refers to a closed device that holds gas or liquid and carries a certain pressure.
There are many classification methods for pressure vessels, including the following from the perspectives of use, manufacturing, and inspection.
(1) According to the level of pressure bearing, it is divided into low-pressure vessels, medium pressure vessels, high-pressure vessels, and ultra-high-pressure vessels.
(2) According to the containing medium, it is divided into: non flammable and non-toxic; Flammable or toxic; Highly toxic.
(3) According to the different roles in the process, it can be divided into:
① Reaction container: A container used to complete physical and chemical reactions of the medium.
② Heat exchanger: A container used to complete the heat exchange of a medium.
③ Separation container: A container used for mass exchange of media, gas purification, solid, liquid, and gas separation.
④ Storage and transportation container: A container used to hold liquid or gas materials, storage and transportation media, or to balance and buffer pressure.

The design pressure (p) of pressure vessels is divided into four pressure levels: low pressure, medium pressure, high pressure, and ultra-high pressure:
(1) Low pressure (code L) 0.1MPa ≤ p<1.6MPa
(2) Medium pressure (code M) 1.6MPa ≤ p<10.0MPa
(3) High pressure (code H) 10.0MPa ≤ p<100.0MPa
(4) Ultra high pressure (code U) p ≥ 100.0MPa.

Pressure vessels are a comprehensive product that involves multiple industries and disciplines, and their construction technology involves many industries such as metallurgy, mechanical processing, corrosion and anti-corrosion, non-destructive testing, safety protection, and so on. Pressure vessels are widely used in sectors such as chemical, petroleum, machinery, power, metallurgy, nuclear energy, aviation, aerospace, and marine industries. It is an essential core equipment in the production process and an important indicator of a country's equipment manufacturing level. Pressure vessels include reaction devices, heat exchange devices, separation device casings, gas-liquid storage tanks, pressure shells of nuclear power reactors, and steam drums in power plant boiler systems in chemical production. With the continuous progress of technologies such as metallurgy, mechanical processing, welding, and non-destructive testing.
